Have I really not written in twenty-one days? I promise that I didn’t take three weeks off from working out! No, I’ve just had a shift in focus, which is natural and expected, and haven't sat down to reflect and write much lately. End of summer, stepson back to his mom’s house, starting to think about school again. It has changed my workout schedule, though, even though my time has been very flexible this past week, and I am worried that once my schedule changes for real, when I go back to work next week, all this great summer resolve will disappear.
I signed up for five more sessions with Revelle. At least she will help keep me on track one day a week. I had to say goodbye to Monday Buddha Barre last week - I used up the last of my ten pre-paid sessions, and I won’t be free in the mid-day anymore starting next week. That timing was just about perfect! I can still try to make Wednesday evening Buddha Barre, but that is so much tougher. I really love the workout it gives me, so I’ll probably find myself craving it before long, but maybe it is okay to take a break while I get back into the swing of working full time.
I made myself a promise - if I lose those next five stubborn pounds - taking me down from 145 to 140 - I get to buy myself a pair of Lululemon yoga pants! For anyone who knows Lululemon, you know what a treat that is! Perhaps I will go shopping (window, that is) today and pick out a pair or two that I really want. Might help my motivation!

Lazy Days of Summer - Fitness and Weight Loss Plan - Week Six
It is easy to get lazy on vacation. Nights get later, sleep wins out over early morning jogs. Home made brownies with ice cream cannot be denied. But the scales may still be balanced, as a mid-day jog is just as effective as a morning one, especially after a good sleep and a leisurely breakfast that has time to fully digest. My partner and I have found a new way to exercise together, even though he has knee problems and doesn't run anymore. I run, and he follows me on the bike. Naturally, he is pedaling pretty slow, but towards the end, when I increase my speed, it's a fun game to make him speed up and see if I can go at bike pace. He is always happy to take multiple bike rides a day, so a few afternoon rides on the boardwalk have added to what I count as my workouts.
True to tradition, the yoga mats came out yesterday for some ab and glute work with my sisters on the living room floor. I haven't yet done a group yoga session, but I did my own thirty minute vinyasa flow and strength poses practice on the sand the other day. I got a lot of looks from people on the beach as well as people starting cocktail hour on their porches overlooking the sand, but I don't mind. I'm not shy about yoga - I am proud. Maybe today, our last day here, I'll get some participants to salute the sun with me.
Since we are honoring the Olympics this week with our own family Olympics theme, there have been chances to play in an athletic way. I did not do the ocean swim event - I'm a wade-to-my-thighs kind of beach girl - but the volleyball tournament proved to be a vigorous competition! My teammate, a 13 year old nephew, and I did well and stayed in the tourney for several rounds. I dove, jumped, and set like a much younger woman, remembering the fun of digging for the ball and landing in warm, forgiving sand. My wrists were sore afterwards, and I had sand in places that should not have sand, but it was fun to play hard. I think we even placed fourth or fifth in the end, not bad in a tourney with twelve teams!
Tomorrow will force me back to reality, with unpacking, laundry, and other chores taking priority. Inevitably, I will feel tired, whether from all the fun or just from the letdown of ending a great week of family time, so naps will win over mid-day runs for the first few days. But Mondays are good days to get back on track, so I think I'll be forgiving of myself for the weekend and extend the vacation mindset a little longer, knowing that structure and schedule will be restored soon enough.
